SPF 30 Moisturizers are popular. But is it a good idea to use a moisturizer with sunscreen?

It would seem that spf 30 moisturizers are becoming popular. After all it is now well known that the sun can damage your skin. We have talked about the serious effects of photoaging on your skin before. Skin sun damage is a serious issue, and many women now understand that one of the major causes of prematurely ageing skin, wrinkles, lines and skin dryness is overexposure to the sun.

However sunburn, or severe overexposure to the sun, can be much more serious than simply ageing your skin. It can kill you from skin cancer. And so it would seem to make sense that if you are applying a moisturizer, or for that matter any skin care products, every day, that having a sunscreen in them would be a good idea. And so many women opt to buy a moisturiser with spf 30 sun protection. But is this really a good idea?

On this website we seek to alert you to the dangers of chemicals in skin care products. Unfortunately the same problems apply for spf 30 moisturizers, or for that matter any skin care products that contain sunscreen. Unfortunately the chemicals that produce the desired effect, namely screening out the harmful UV rays of the sun, may have unwanted side-effects and can damage your health.

Here’s an example. One of the most commonly used chemicals to produce the result of screening out UV rays is Octinoxate. However Octinoxate can have side effects.spf 30 moisturizer

Although Octinoxate is found in a wide range of personal products such as many moisturizers, lip balms and lipsticks it is known that it can cause a range of unwanted effects on the skin including dermatitis, acne and rashes. Even worse, if you search it at the cosmetics database you’ll find that Octinoxate  is also linked to various allergies and immunotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption and more.

Of course Octinoxate is not the only chemical used to produce a sunscreen effect in moisturizers. Moisturisers with spf 30 can use a variety of different chemicals to produce this effect. However others can also have side effects.

The owner of the company that we consider makes the highest quality natural anti aging skin products specifically avoids adding a sunscreen to the products, and you can read why right here.

Let’s think about it. How often do you actually need to protect itself from the sun? It’s usually only during summer during the middle of the day. Unless you’re on the beach it’s usually only your face, and you can protect your face with a good hat.

People who use an spf 30 moisturizer will usually use it on more than their face. They will use it in the winter as well as the summer, and they often use it more than once a day. Often it will cover a large area of the body. All day long.

If there are any risks at all from using a moisturizer with sunscreen then these risks are exacerbated by using it on large areas of the body, most of which does not need it, and mostly at times of the year and during times of the day that also do not require it.

Not only that but as more and more of us avoid going out in the sun to avoid getting sunburnt, and for good reason, there is a gradual tendency for us to become vitamin D deficient. By using a moisturiser with sunscreen we are ensuring that this may worsen.

Protecting yourself from the sun can be achieved with some simple commonsense. It is only necessary for 3 or 4 months of the year and for 3 or 4 hours in the day. Don’t overdo it by using an spf 30 moisturizer, just be sensible.

Oh, and for great skin care use high quality natural skin care products that do not contain any nasty chemical ingredients.

Sagging skin can be tackled. How, and what level of expectations should you have?

There’s a number of reasons why your skin might begin to sag as you get older. Unfortunately one of these causes is something you can do nothing about. It’s age.

When you were young, in your teens, your skin was full of wonderful skin proteins called elastin and collagen. Both of these skin proteins contributed to the levels of elasticity in your skin, and this is what caused your skin to look so good when you were younger.

But as you age the levels of collagen and elastin in your skin begin to decline, commonly starting around your 30s. And by the time you reach middle age the levels of important skin proteins are considerably lower, and the rate of sagging skin that women experience is higher.

All of this is common science and has been known for some time.

And there are other factors which also contribute to the loss of collagen and elastin. Smoking certainly does and smoking is one of the worst things you can ever do for your skin. If you smoke and you care about your skin you need to make every effort to stop.
Sagging Skin
However another cause of wrinkles and sagging is one you may not have expected. Sunburn, or more specifically what is technically termed photo ageing.

This is the gradual effect of too much ultraviolet light from the sun, particularly when you were sunburned, on your skin. Photo ageing is one of the major causes of the decline in skin health as you age for women who are excessively exposed to the sun during their lifetime.

This is something you can certainly change, now that you know that it’s very important not to let your skin get burned, and not to stay too long in the sun particularly in the summer during the middle of the day.

So there you have some simple things you can do to help improve your skin. Add to that improving your diet by adding more fruit and vegetables and less saturated fat and your skin will thank you for it. But this will not reverse your sagging skin problem.

If the loss of collagen and elastin as you age is the cause of sagging skin then the obvious solution must be to increase the amount of these skin proteins. But how do you do that?

Traditionally companies that manufacture skin care products will put elastin and collagen in the bottles, but it has been well known for some time that the molecule size of these proteins is too large to enter the skin and they just remain on the surface. But it’s a super marketing tactic.

However it’s also been discovered by science over the last few years that by feeding high levels of the right nutrients to your skin it’s quite possible to stimulate your skin to produce more collagen and elastin all by itself. It is now known how to do this and studies have demonstrated that this approach is effective in improving levels of collagen and elastin and therefore tackling wrinkles and sagging.

And there are now some excellent natural skin care products available which will stimulate your skin to produce more proteins itself. In fact the company that makes these products is so proud of them that it even offers you a money back guarantee.

However you also need to manage expectations. Even the best skin care products will not give you the skin of a baby, and it is unrealistic to expect to completely reverse the visible signs of ageing.

But don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. You can tackle skin sagging effectively as long as you understand that you are looking to make improvements, not a complete reversal.

Oh, one more thing. Along with the steps of mentioned above there is one other thing that you must be doing for high quality skin care. The essential fatty acids known as the Omega 3 fatty acids are extremely important to good skin health, and as well as using high quality natural skin care products you also need to be supplementing your diet with high quality Omega 3 supplements.

This is not only good for your skin but good for your general health as well.

So remember, make some lifestyle changes, use high quality skin care products that stimulate your skin to produce more collagen and elastin, stay out of the sun and supplement with Omega 3 supplements, and have realistic expectations, and you really can start to reverse sagging skin.
